I don’t know nothin’
300
No, it’s not an action movie with sweaty hunky men, it’s my 300th post on this blog. In celebration of such, I’ve equipped the old girl with a new look, a new contest and a new poll. The new look you’re seeing already. Please drop me a note and tell me what you think. Be kind, though since I hooked up the graphic myself, lol.
You can find the poll on the sidebar about halfway down. As for the contest, any time you leave a comment you are entered into the contest for a $10. Amazon gift certificate (perfect for purchasing my June release Soldier Boys, but you didn’t hear that from me. The winner will be announced May 1, so please check back then for the announcement or make sure to include your email address in your post so I can contact you.
I hope you enjoy the new What I Know So Far . . . Have a happy spring!
I was looking around the blogosphere, something I usually do on Friday’s but it was a holiday so what’s the dif? I was over at Roslyn Carrington’s blog where she had a doohickey telling what educational level her blog catered to (I almost said was at, but you’ll see why I changed my mind.
I hope it’s on the dean’s list, too.
New Year, Old Me
If all the people I know could reach one consensus, 2007 was a pretty lousy year. So much going on in the world, not to mention the publishing industry, is bad, bad, bad. We couldn’t even close the 12 months without an assassination to tear the victim’s homeland apart.
It’s enough to make folks wonder, where do I belong in all this? At least it made me ask myself that. In the last year, I find this blog has ventured far afield of what I originally intended for it–commentary on the publishing industry interspersed with insights on other matters. I can’t remember the last time, apart from earlier this morning, that I wrote anything that would help young writers get published or help more advanced writers hone their craft.
So in this new year I am going back to that old me that had plenty of advice, inspiration and wisdom for writers (at least that’s what my aging brain remembers). I’ll leave the commentary on Todd Bridges and La Lohan to those who actually know what they are talking about.
Happy New Year to you. It’s good to be back!
Actually, there haven’t been any rumors of my demise–that’s what Mark Twain said when he learned it was reported that he had died–rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. How about–contrary to popular belief I didn’t fall off the earth. LOL
I have had one crazy summer–lots of it very, very good, some of it awful. Most of it was so time consuming I had no energy left to write a blosted thing I didn’t have to. I haven’t written here in over a month and damn, I missed it.
Anyhoo, I’m now back on track. To paraphrase my character Nathan Ward at the end of Once and Again–I don’t want to hear about any births, deaths, marriages, illnesses, nothing. I’ve had enough drama to last me a while. Now on to bigger and better things.
All the best to all of you,
Dee
P.S. I’ve been smoke free for over six months!
Cleaning House
As much as I hate housekeeping, I must do a little now as far as my blogging goes. I killed the one on my website, since I never really posted anything over there. This is now the blog you get if you click on the blog button on that site. Yes, the website is being updated, so please have a little patience. When it’s done, it will also have an online press kit. Something I’ve been meaning to do for some time.
I do not like myspace, regardless of what anyone else says about it. I can’t even figure out how to get a decent background going over there. I haven’t finished filling out the profile or whatever, either. I just don’t have time. I may kill it, especially since I have a page up at Crimespace. We’ll see. All my mystery-related posts will now be at Crimespace, but not necessarily here.
I also will not be posting as much anywhere, I don’t think, as I am getting back to the business of writing books. I seem to be over that writing blockage, thanks to my sister Lesi. I’ll let you know how it’s working out.
I don’t know what it is about airline travel that seems to knock the stuffings out of me–not so much when I get to my destination, but when I get back? I’ve spent the last couple days battling a cold or something like it. Or maybe my system has rid itself of enough nicotine to start flushing out other toxins as well. Who knows? But if you’ve been wondering why I’ve posted so little since coming back from Slam Jam, that is why.
Thanks to all of you who have offered me encouragement in my bid to stop smoking, both here and elsewhere. It has been both harder and easier than I anticipated. Thanks to you and my family I am still going strong.
Now I better get some work done today. I’m way behind where I want to be on some things. See you folks tomorrow!
Off to RSJ
I’ll be gone until Sunday. Have a happy St. Patty’s and try not to miss me too much!
Just so’s you know
I’ve made a few changes on the blog. First, I added a few more blogs that I’ve been visiting. If you don’t see yours there and want it added, please let me know. If you see yours there and you don’t have mine listed on yours, please add it. Let’s help each other out.
Second, just wanted to remind folks the blog contest is back on since the previous *winner* neva sent me her email. This time we’re giving away a $25 gift certificate. So if you post a comment between now and March 31 you are eligible for the gift certificate. Winner will be announced April 1.
Third, in case no one has noticed, there’s a writing quote a day now on the sidebar. I don’t necessarily agree with all the quotes but I find them interesting. If you have a quote you’d like me to post, let me know.
Finally . . . when I started this post I had a finally, but my daughter and her friends who call themselves a band are in my house making so much noise all my thoughts fell clean out of my head. Can’t wait until the pizza gets here so I can have five minutes of peace and quiet. If I can remember my finally, I’ll be back.
