Although I like her a lot I rarely watch Ellen DeGeneres’s show. However her tearful, on-air plea to the Mutts and Moms animal rescue center reached me via my local news. It seems DeGeneres adopted a Brussels Griffon terrier mix from the group, but the arrangement didn’t work out. The new guy didn’t get along with her cats. So DeGeneres did what any animal lover would–she found the dog a new home.
But that wasn’t good enough for Mutts and Moms. Apparently DeGeneres’s hairdresser and two young daughters weren’t good enough caretakers for the pooch. Attorney for Mutts and Moms Keith A. Fink said:
Moms and Mutts has a rule that families with children under 14 are not allowed to adopt small dogs.
“It’s for the protection of the dog,” he said.
Are you kidding me? Then who should adopt small dogs? NFL quarterbacks? Give me a *%^$ break folks. It seems to me this agency liked it when a celebrity picked out one of their dogs but was a bit miffed to have to settle for Jane Shmo. After all, isn’t this a dog rescue agency? What are they rescuing it from? A good home? No wonder these folks have received death and arson threats from enraged folks.
My advice to Mutts and Moms–give the dog back before you besmirch what’s left of your business and reputation. No death threats here, just a big thump on the head to Moms and Mutts.

A touching story, yes. National news, no. The Today show actually featured this in its first half hour, the time usually reserved for hard news.
But I do feel that the dog should go back to its second home. Taking a pet away from a child/children is the type of trauma that can follow them for lives . . . they don’t call them “man’s best friend” for nothing.
Incidentally, I noticed Steve Brown’s book about being a PI on your blog. I know Steve, and my name’s in the Acknowledgements!
